Costa Rica ranks third in the world in environmental conservation

Costa Rica ranked third overall in global pollution control and management
of natural resources, according to the 2010 Environmental Performance
Index .
Out of a possible maximum score of 100, Costa Rica scored 86.4.
_e index, prepared by experts from Yale and Columbia, was presented at the
World Economic Forum in Davos.
Only Iceland and Switzerland ranked higher than our country. _e index
analyzed 163 countries in various categories, including air quality, water
management, biodiversity management, fisheries, agriculture and combating
climate change.
_e EFE news agency reported, "the first place positions were awarded because
of the investments these countries have made in environmental infrastructure,
pollution control and other policies aimed at long-term sustainability."
